Tutorial: Ordering Hazardous Materials

TESSCO offers a wide variety of products, some of which are hazardous materials, or hazmats. Hazmat items are delivered by five-day ground only. The following is a demonstartion of how TESSCO.com will process your hazmat request.

Recognizing Hazmats

Below is a sample worksheet from TESSCO.com showing a hazmat item. The selected delivery method for this example is three-day (located at the bottom of the worksheet). Since hazmat items cannot ship via three-day delivery, TESSCO.com will detect the hazmat item and ask you how to ship the hazmat. After clicking on CONTIUNE, tessco.com will offer three options for delivery of the desired hazmat item(s).

Option 1: You may elect to separate the hazmat onto its own order and send the remaining product out via the originally selected delivery method.

Option 2: You may have the entire order sent via 5-day ground.

Option 3: You may manually delete the hazmat skus off of worksheet.

Processing a Hazmat Order

If you choose to separate the hazmat onto its own order, TESSCO.com will prompt you to complete the non-hazmat order first. Then you will be prompted to complete the hazmat order afterward. In effect, TWO orders will be completed. If the second (hazmat) order is not completed, the hazmat sku(s) will not be delivered to you. For this tutorial, we’ll choose to separate the hazmat item(s) onto its own order.

After choosing to separate the hazmat onto its own order, you will be prompted to specify your delivery options for your non-hazmat items, just like any other TESSCO.com order. This “first” order is for the non-hazmat items. Click on CONTINUE to proceed.

Next, step 2 of 2 asks you to verify the checkout information for the order. Remember, this is for the “first” non-hazmat order. Click on “Place Order” to process the non-hazmat order. TESSCO.com will then present an order confirmation along with an order number. This concludes the “first” non-hazmat order. To complete the “second” hazmat order, click on the yellow "View Extra Items" button.

TESSCO.com now directs you to a new hazmat worksheet which contains the hazmat skus (only) requested with the original order. Five-day delivery is selected as the default delivery option. Clicking on CONTINUE will take you to the delivery options screen.

TESSCO.com will then ask for your hazmat delivery options, Step 1 of 2. Click on CONTINUE to proceed. Then verify the checkout information and click on “Place Order”. Finally an order confirmation is presented (along with a second order number) for the hazmat order.
