    Tutorial: Upload a Worksheet

Does your company use spreadsheets to store product information? Now you can save time by uploading worksheets into TESSCO.com®, allowing you to keep a master Excel worksheet on file, and then simply import the items you wish to order. No more extra time inputting data into TESSCO.com® worksheets.

    Rules for Uploading

In order to upload a worksheet into TESSCO.com®, you must follow a few rules to make sure your file is compatible. You can create such a file using most common spreadsheet programs or even a text based editor. The file comprises three major sections.

    1.  Branding information

The first section is a branding section. This is useful if you use a spreadsheet program and want some branding, graphics, or descriptive material at the top of your spreadsheet to help with data entry. When uploading the file, TESSCO.com® will ignore anything in the branding section. The branding section must be ended with a line having "END_BRANDING" in the first field.

    2.  Order Header information

The second section is considered an order header section. Some firms use this section to record project numbers, PO information, or account management data. TESSCO.com® will also ignore information in this section, unless special arrangements have been made. To find out more about special order options using header fields, you can contact our Web Help team (800-508-5444, webhelp@tessco.com).  The header section must be ended with a line having "END_HEADER" in the first field.

    3.  Order Detail Lines - one line per part number

Finally, the file should contain rows of detail information. The detail section must contain a line that has a field labeled "qty" and another field labeled "sku" (columns must be labeled with "qty" and "sku" in order to upload successfully). Detail lines then follow the detail marker line and must include TESSCO part numbers and the quantity desired. Please note that in the detail lines, SKUs must be valid TESSCO part numbers. These are 5 or 6 digit numbers. Any line with a zero quantity will be ignored and hence not uploaded into the worksheet.

*Notice the "END_BRANDING" and "END_HEADER" lines denoted by the red arrows. It is imperative to include these lines (EVEN IF you don’t have a header or a branding). Otherwise the upload will not function correctly. By changing a quantity to anything but zero, you will be including that SKU in the worksheet.

Once these three items are included in your document, you must save it as a CSV file. By clicking "Save As", then selecting "CSV (Comma delimited)" under "Save As Type", the file will be saved in the correct format.

    Uploading on TESSCO.com

Once you have created a document and saved it under the CSV format, you are ready to upload it into TESSCO.com®. From the Worksheet page, select "Upload" from the pull-down menu.
