Weatherproofing Keeps Connector Interfaces Tight and Adds an additional layer of protection against the environment.

A Universal Weatherproofing Kit uses butyl and vinyl tapes to wrap surfaces and seal connections. It provides water protection coverage and helps to prevent interfaces from loosening due to vibration.

An innovative alternative to traditional butyl and vinyl tape is CELL-Tape (C-Tape). C-Tape is a clean, self-adhesive silicone that fuses firmly to create an air and water-tight bond. It also comes in multiple colors for cable identification.

If time is an issue, our Cold Shrink Weatherproofing Kit could be the answer. Cold shrink weatherproofing uses a self-shrinking technology to reduce installation time.

3M One Step Closure for Wireless

The OSCW closure from 3M is used at two main connection points—the smaller OSCW-S is used at the antenna and the larger OSCW-L is used at the feeder to jumper cable.

These connection points can be the sources of many problems for tower cellular operators. Moisture can intrude into the coaxial cable where the DIN and/or N-type connectors are used. The large core coaxial cable can be adversely affected by the elements, which can lead to signal integrity issues.

Band-It Stainless Steel Banding is Ideal for Mounting Antennas and Enclosures to Round Poles

The Band-It type 316 stainless steel strapping and buckles are specified for use in situations where corrosion is the major problem. It is used extensively in applications using disimilar metals, moist atmospheres and environments where it is subject to chemicals, salts, acids and high temperatures. 
Another solution available is the stainless steel "Scru-Seal" kit. These kits require only a screwdriver to tighten the clamps, allowing for quick and easy installation, while still providing excellent corrosion resistance.

Self-Amalgamating Tape

Self-Amalgamating Tape is designed to be a stand-alone weatherproofing solution. TESSCO stocks products from well known brands like Commscope (Miracle Tape), Huber+Suhner (Fast-Wrap), and RFS (Cell Tape). This tape is designed to fuse to itself to make water migration impossible.

Hard Shell Weatherproofing Kits

Andrew recently introduced a family of hard shell weatherproofing kits that are fully re-usable. The Weathershield significantly reduce installation time and are available in several configurations. TESSCO maintains a deep inventory on the ½” (jumper) to antenna, 1-5/8” to jumper, and 7/8” to jumper versions. 1-1/4” to jumper is also available.

Tape and Mastic Weatherproofing Kits

Although there have been several new products introduced to the marketplace, this is still the most popular way to weatherproof a connection. Although this method is more time consuming than some of the other available methods, it works very well when it is properly used. TESSCO offers traditional weatherproofing kits from Andrew, RFS, and Wireless solutions. Each product contains 6 rolls of 2-1/2” x 24” butyl mastic, 2 rolls of ¾” x 66’ electrical tape and 1 roll of 2” x 20’ electrical tape.

Cold Shrink

Cold Shrink allows you to quickly seal a connection with a weatherproof barrier. Installation is as simple as positioning over the area that you are protecting, and pulling the rip cord. TESSCO offers cold shrink from Andrew, Times Microwave, RFS, and 3M.
