Rohn tower case study:
Only One Day Needed to Erect
Direct-Imbedded Poles

Rohn Tower LogoIf your upcoming tower installation has time, space and zoning restrictions and stringent safety requirements, a direct-imbedded tapered steel pole is an economical, efficient, quickly deployed alternative to small lattice structures.

Problem

A local school needed to install communication structures to support their broadband project requirements, but had only a brief window of time for installation while students were off campus for a short holiday. In addition, school administrators had concerns about the attractive hazard of a lattice tower, which vandals could easily climb, possibly becoming entangled in exposed wires and cables.

Rohn Direct-Imbedded PoleResolution

These concerns were resolved with the use of tapered steel poles. The direct-imbedded poles were quickly deployed, easily installed, and can be climbed only by professionally trained and authorized personnel.

Quick

To have adequate time to complete a lattice tower installation, the school district would have been forced to wait until the students' summer vacation. However, the installation of direct-imbedded tapered steel poles took only one day, allowing the school to complete their system installation over a short Thanksgiving holiday. Because poles less than 70 feet, without a foundation, typically do not require zoning approval, the project also avoided a delay.

Easy

Installation time and costs were reduced for the school through the elimination of an expensive concrete foundation. The tapered pole is also an aesthetically pleasing structure, reducing many complaints from neighbors. Some poles can be further blended into their surroundings following the application of graduated paint coloration.

Safe

The school's concern about vandalism or the entanglement of a climber on a lattice structure was eliminated as well. Tapered steel poles are virtually impossible to climb by unauthorized personnel because step bolts in the bottom 10-15 feet of the pole are removed. All transmission cables are run inside the pole, improving both safety and aesthetics.

Conclusion

As an alternative to a small lattice tower, direct-embedded steel towers offer significant benefits for hassle-free installation and safe usage.
