Help Your Techs Understand Fiber

Are your technicians uncomfortable or unfamiliar with the new fiber system? They understand wireless and copper but this is glass and it can break! Fact is most technicians do not know how to install, test and maintain fiber optic systems. They are not quite sure how to verify an installation so they will just have to take the contract installers' word for it and plug everything in and hope it works. Do they understand how to perform a loss budget? Or how to take power level readings to make sure the light levels are not too high or low before plugging in the end equipment? They'll just hope that it's ok and take the risk of burning out an expensive piece of equipment. Cleaning...forget about it, they wiped the end of the connector off with their finger after scratching an itch on the back of their neck with it...it's clean. And if a fiber cable or jumper gets cut...they won't touch it; splicing a cut fiber or putting a new connector on the end of the fiber jumper is far too delicate of a procedure for them to tackle, they'll just leave that to the experts.
