FCC and IC Authorized the Integrated Models of the Motorola PTP 54400 5.4 GHz Point-To-Point Wireless Ethernet Bridges

Products Authorized: The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Industry Canada (IC) have granted authorization for Motorola to sell certain models of its license-exempt 5.4 GHz point-to-point broadband wireless devices. Beginning May 29, 2007, North American orders for the following models in the PTP 400 family of Wireless Ethernet Bridges, with product projected to ship within 30 days:

PTP 400 Series Systems Authorized for Sale in U.S. and Canada:

Meet additional needs. Because the Motorola PTP 54400 bridges deliver proven, secure, carrier-grade broadband connectivity, even in challenging environments and extreme weather conditions, the systems are ideal solutions for:

    • Quickly-deployed temporary links for emergency situations, sporting events or entertainment venues
    • High-performance backhaul for Canopy Point-to-Multipoint and Mesh networks
    • High-bandwidth communications for Voice-over-IP and streaming video
    • Clustered links, such as are required for video surveillance
    • Non-line-of-sight connections around tall buildings or trees
    • High-availability communications over water or open terrain
    • Cost-effective point-to-point links where wired access is not available
    • Reliable network redundancy
    • WiMAX-ready backhaul with the PTP 54600 systems (the PTP 54600 is not yet authorized for sale in U.S., but is authorized for sale in Canada)

Manage power requirements. The Motorola MOTOwi4™ PTP 54400 Integrated systems comply with the power restrictions imposed by regulatory agencies in the US, Canada and the EU, providing wireless broadband solutions that are particularly well suited for:

    • Line-of-sight hops – up to 12 miles (20 km)
    • Non-line-of-sight links – up to 3 miles (5 km)
    • Backhaul for Canopy Point-to-Multipoint and Mesh networks

In regions where power restrictions are not imposed, as well as for government agencies that are exempt from power restrictions, the PTP 54400 solutions can be set to operate at full power with the Alternative License Key provided with each link. At full power, line-of-sight ranges of up to 124 miles (200 km) can be achieved.

Provide more bandwidth.  250 MHz of bandwidth has been allocated in the 5.4 GHz spectrum. That is 125 MHz more than is available in the 5.8 GHz spectrum, allowing more channels in which to co-locate multiple radios on a single tower or rooftop without interference.

PTP 600 Series Solutions: The following models of the PTP 600 Series 5.4 GHz Point-To-Point Wireless Bridges also have been approved by Industry Canada for sale in Canada.

    • PTP 54600 Full Integrated – Link Complete: BP5530BH-2DD
    • PTP 54600 Full Integrated – End Complete: BP5530BH-1DD
    • PTP 54600 Lite Integrated – Link Complete: BP5530BH15-2DD
    • PTP 54600 Lite Integrated – End Complete: BP5530BH15-1DD

While the PTP 600 Series systems have been submitted to the Federal Communications Commission for authorization, FCC authorization has not been received. Because these devices have not been authorized as required by the rules of the FCC, these devices are not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased in the United States, until authorization is obtained.

    Improved Canopy Software Ordering Process

Based on feedback from customers like you, we have made ordering software even easier.  Order authorization numbers are no longer required to place a software order.  The ordering process consists of the following steps:

    1. Customer places drop ship software orders with TESSCO.  (Note: Resellers should not combine software orders on the same purchase order – separate purchase orders should be used for different end customers)
    2. TESSCO places the software order with Motorola.  (Again, separate purchase orders should be used for different customers.)
    3. After the order is processed, TESSCO will receive an e-mail with an “entitlement id”.
    4. TESSCO will forward the e-mail entitlement id to the customer. (Note: Typical lead time for receiving an entitlement id is 2-3 business days)
    5. When the end customer is ready to collect their software license key, they will login to Motorola’s licensing portal. Using the entitlement ID and the MAC address of the license manager, the end customer can collect the software license key at any time.

While orders for software licenses no longer require authorization codes, the following orders will require special authorizations.
    • No-charge 30 day trial of Prizm 2.0
    • No-charge upgrade from BAM 2.X to Prizm 2.0
