1952

  • The Towson Engineering Sales and Service Company is founded.

  • The Company specializes in electronic equipment and installs the first engine-to-caboose two-way railroad radio.


1982

  • Chairman, President & CEO Robert B. Barnhill, Jr., re-founded TESSCO as the Your Total Source® supplier to the then-fledgling mobile radio industry – supplying the base antenna system used in the second cellular build-out in 1983.


1989

  • The TESSCO Buyer's Guide™ is first published. While other suppliers elect to segment their reference materials by manufacturers – or simply to rely on price sheets and product literature provided by the manufacturer – TESSCO is the first and only company to organize similar products by competing manufacturers to facilitate comparative shopping.


1993

  • The Wireless Journal®, an 8-page news and product review for the wireless communications industry, is first published. Today, this industry-leading trade print publication includes 36-pages of valuable product news and reviews, as well as articles on technical applications and significant industry trends. It is one of the most-read publications in the wireless industry with more than 115,000 copies circulated on a bi-monthly basis. The publication is also available online, and as a browser-based, interactive PDF version.


1994

  • TESSCO combines engineering, radio communications, as well as supply chain, marketing, and customer service disciplines, to become a publicly-held corporation on the NASDAQ Stock Market (Nasdaq:TESS) on September 28th.


1995

  • TESSCO Magic™, a software application featuring the same product information as the Buyer's Guide, is introduced – offering online order capabilities.

  • Forbes names TESSCO one of 200 Best Small Companies in America; TESSCO wins the wholesale distribution rights to an exclusive satellite telephone network: America Mobile Satellite Corporation’s Skycell

  • Chairman, President & CEO Robert B. Barnhill, Jr. received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Maryland


1996

  • TESSCO acquires Cartwright Communications, Inc., a supplier of wireless communications products based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • Relocation of the distribution function into a new 156,000 square foot “Global Logistics Center” is accomplished without a day’s interruption in service.


1997

  • TESSCO consolidates its operations in the Global Logistics Center, the company's 184,000 square foot headquarters in Hunt Valley, Maryland.

  • TESSCO is registered as an ISO 9002 company, ensuring that its business operations conform to internationally accepted quality standards for production, installation and servicing.


1998

  • TESSCO launches TESSCO.com®, the most innovative and effective business-to-business knowledge, transaction and service site in the wireless communications industry.


1999

  • TESSCO opens Sales & Distribution Center in Reno, Nevada to serve the western states with 1 to 3 day delivery.

  • TESSCO.com is recognized by Interactive Week as one of the country’s leading business-to-business e-commerce Web sites.

2000

  • TESSCO.com offers integrated commerce solutions with a fully digital catalog.


2001

  • The Buyer's Guide® becomes The TESSCO Solutions Guide®


2002

  • TESSCO is registered as an ISO 9001:2000 company.

  • A flood damages much of the Hunt Valley, MD-based sales offices and distribution center on October 12th. TESSCO is opened for business 24 hours later and completes 4th quarter with revenues growing 10%to a record $273.9 million.

  • TESSCO acquires a new facility in Reno, Nevada – the Americas Logistics Center.

  • First of consecutive times for which TESSCO is rated by Advertising Age as a “Top 100 Catalogue Company” – for its production of the TESSCO Solutions Guide.


2004

  • TESSCO achieves record financial results – revenues, profits, orders delivered, and the number of customers served all show growth and strength. For the fiscal year, revenues grow by 29% to a record $352.7 million.


2005

  • Sales total $513 million, a full 45% increase over sales of $352 million in fiscal year 2004.

  • The TESSCO Solutions Guide rates 45th by Multi-Channel Merchant Magazine for top print channel, and establishes TESSCO as one of the Top 100 Catalogue Companies.

  • TESSCO provides emergency recovery efforts for Hurricane Katrina victims with significant financial support, as well as a 24/7 SOS program that reconnected communications for emergency response groups.


2006

  • In April, TESSCO acquires TerraWave Solutions and GigaWave Technologies, leading suppliers of WLAN proprietary products and training programs – introducing the Company to a large set of wireless users and resellers.

  • TESSCO receives the Maryland Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) 2006 Deal of the Year Award for its April acquisition of TerraWave Solutions and GigaWave Technologies.

  • Chairman, President & CEO Robert B. Barnhill, Jr. receives the prestigious Maryland 2006 International Business Leadership Award from the World Trade Institute, in recognition of his contributions as a major employer and contributor to Maryland’s economy and the local community, as well as his leadership and vision in the international wireless technology marketplace.

  • TESSCO.com receives the Silver Web Winner – Syndicated/Co-op Award from Multi-Channel Merchant Magazine (MCM).

  • TESSCO receives the National Policy Research Council for Excellence Award in E-Government.

2007

  • TESSCO celebrates its 25th year of enduring success, and receives an Executive Citation from the Baltimore County Executive's Office, for 25 years of contribution to the community.

  • TESSCO is named “Distributor of the Year” by Radio Waves, Inc. in June for providing superior performance as a key distribution partner.

  • In July, TESSCO acquires NetForce Solutions, Inc., a provider of technical and sales training solutions to the wireless, telecommunications, and networking industries.

  • TESSCO is named to Forbes’ 2007 elite list of America’s Best Small Companies, for its consistent pattern of positive sales and profit growth.

  • TESSCO’s Wireless Guide receives top recognition as a superior print catalogue in the Multichannel Merchant Awards – the industry’s top honors for b-to-b and b-to-c multi-channel marketers.

  • TESSCO and GE Transportation form a long-term partnership to co-develop and produce Positive Train Control (PTC) Solutions to the North American rail industry.

2012

Presented by the Telecommunications Industry Group (TIG), this prestigious recognition is awarded yearly to a corporation that has been innovative in the way it has used a diverse supplier in its supply chain.

What is a Diverse Supplier?

At TESSCO, we define diverse suppliers as those who are certified as minority, women, or disabled veteran entities. These business enterprises must be at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by United States Citizens who:

  • Are Women; African, Asian, Hispanic, or Native American; Disabled Veterans

  • Are in adherence with our high quality standards—provide excellent service, competitive pricing, innovative solutions and/or products

  • Have a minimum of three years of business history

TESSCO also works with HUBzone entities and Section 8(a) vendors. HUBzone entities are companies located within one or more qualified census tracts, qualified non-metropolitan counties, or lands within the external boundaries of an Indian reservation. For purposes of this HUBzone designation, TESSCO recognizes small businesses that appear on the List of Qualified HUBzone Small Business Concerns, maintained by the SBA. Section 8(a) Vendors are small businesses owned and controlled by socially and economically disadvantaged individuals, which are certified by the SBA to participate in the Section 8(a) program.

    Chairman of the Board

    Robert B. Barnhill, Jr. is founder and executive chairman of TESSCO Technologies Incorporated. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University and a master’s degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Murray Wright

    President and Chief Executive Officer
    Mr. Wright, 60, joined TESSCO’s Board of Directors in September, 2016, concurrent with his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining TESSCO, Mr. Wright served from 2013 – 2015 as Chief Executive Officer and President of Zones, Inc., a global IT solutions provider. From 2010 to 2013, he served as President, the Americas of Tech Data Corporation, a publicly traded, global distributor of IT products and services and was Senior Vice President, U.S. Sales from 2006-2010. Prior to his time at Tech Data Corporation, Mr. Wright was President of Lenovo Canada Inc., General Manager of Ingram Micro Canada, General Manager of Sharp Electronics of Canada, Ltd. and began his career with Xerox Canada Inc.

    Jay G. Baitler

    Jay G. Baitler, age 69, has been a director of the company since 2007. He is an operating partner with Atlas Holdings, a private equity firm. Mr. Baitler also serves on the boards of Soundview Paper, Finch Paper and Twin River Paper. Prior to his retirement in 2012, Mr. Baitler was Executive Vice President of Staples and was responsible for the Contract Division, including the 2008 acquisition and integration of Corporate Express.

    John D. Beletic

    John D. Beletic, age 64, has served as a director of the company since July 1999 and Lead Director since August 2008. Since July 2002, Mr. Beletic has been a venture partner or operating partner with Oak Investment Partners, a venture capital firm. Mr. Beletic has been Chairman or Vice Chairman of Xiotech Inc. (X-IO Technologies), a provider of enterprise level disk storage systems since November 2011 and was President and Chief Executive Officer from November 2011 to May 2014. Mr. Beletic is also a director of Cheddars Inc, a 100+ unit restaurant company and Accent Health, a media company. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of iPass, an internet access company, from 2008 to 2015. Earlier in his career, Mr. Beletic served as CEO of telecommunications companies Tigon Corporation, PageMart Wireless, and Weblink Wireless.

    Benn R. Konsynski

    Benn R. Konsynski, Ph.D., age 65, has been a director of the company since November 1993. He is the George S. Craft Professor of Business Administration for Information Systems and Operations Management at the Goizueta Business School of Emory University. He is Director and founder of Emory's Center for Digital Commerce, one of the first of its kind in the country. He was named Hewlett Fellow at the Carter Center in 1995. Prior to arriving at the Goizueta Business School, he was on the faculty at the Harvard Business School for seven years, where he taught in the MBA program and several executive programs. Professor Konsynski specializes in issues of digital commerce and information technology in relationships across organizations.

    Dennis J. Shaughnessy

    Dennis J. Shaughnessy, age 68, has been a director of the company since 1989. He served as Executive Chairman of the Board of FTI Consulting Inc. FTI is a leading global consulting firm with $1.8 billion in revenues with operations in 24 countries and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange with a market cap of approximately $1.6 billion. Mr. Shaughnessy retired as Chairman of FTI effective December 17, 2013. Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Shaughnessy served as General Partner of Grotech Capital Group, a private equity firm, leading its traditional industry group, managing $1.0 billion in private equity. Prior to joining Grotech, Mr. Shaughnessy had been President and CEO of CRI International, an international petroleum refining service business, which was sold to Shell Oil in 1989.

    Morton F. Zifferer, Jr.

    Morton F. Zifferer, Jr., age 67, has been a director of the company since November 1993. He has served as Chairman and CEO of New Standard Corporation, a privately held metal products manufacturing firm, since 1983. Mr. Zifferer and New Standard Corporation have partnered with several Fortune 500 companies globally to implement Six-Sigma continuous improvement activities and execute lean manufacturing techniques and sophisticated supply chain strategies and practices.
  • Jerome C. Eppler

    The late Jerome Eppler spent his entire career in the securities industry, forming his own firm, Eppler & Company in 1961. From 1953 to 1961, he was a general partner of Cyrus J. Lawrence Sons, New York – a member of the New York Stock Exchange. Also, from 1967 to 1978, Mr. Eppler served as chairman and chief executive of Insurance Securities, Inc. TESSCO Technologies appreciates Mr. Eppler's contributions and leadership during his tenure on the Board of Directors.

  • Craig A. Oldham

    Craig Oldham joined the company in 2014. He leads the Strategic Marketing organization focused on driving incremental growth through the development of our Scientific Marketing platform. Prior to joining TESSCO, Mr. Oldham, served in executive leadership positions at the American Red Cross, Zurich of North America, Allstate Insurance, Sprint, Ameritech and SBC (now AT&T). Mr. Oldham received his bachelor's degree from Indiana University and MBA from University of Illinois at Chicago.
  • Douglas A. Rein

    Douglas Rein joined the Company in July 1999. Mr. Rein is senior vice president of the performance systems group. Previously, he was the director of operations for Compaq Computer Corporation and was responsible for fulfillment operations for the commercial and consumer personal computer product lines. Prior to that, he was vice president of distribution and logistics operations for Intelligent Electronics. Mr. Rein obtained both a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and an MBA from Virginia Tech.
  • Aric Spitulnik

    Aric Spitulnik joined the Company in 2000. He is chief financial officer and also serves and the Company's corporate secretary and principal financial and accounting officer. From 2005 to 2013, he served as the Company's corporate controller. Prior to joining TESSCO, Mr. Spitulnik spent 6 years in public accounting. Mr. Spitulnik received a bachelor's degree and an MBA from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
  • Steven K. Tom

    Steven K. Tom joined the company in 2011. He leads advanced Big Data analytics, business intelligence, incubation of strategic initiatives, and the wireless training business units. Prior to TESSCO, Steven led marketing strategy and analytics at Algeco Scotsman and was a management consultant and engagement leader with Deloitte Consulting LLP's strategy practice, driving complex engagements that transformed clients' revenue growth, strategic pricing, and analytics capabilities. Steven has a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
