AT&T Vice President Lance Spencer recently stated how robotic dogs will be connected to AT&T’s network and deployed for public safety, defense, federal, and state agencies, as well as local police, fire departments, and commercial customers. These robotic dogs will be deployed for disaster response and recovery, facility surveillance, and security operations. They can also perform search and rescue missions, detect explosives, chemical leaks, and much more!
“Robotic dogs are just one way we are proving the innovation and transformational possibilities of 5G and IoT,” said Spencer. “Network-connected robotic dogs can deliver a broad range of IoT use cases, including many that have previously required putting personnel in dangerous situations.”
The robotic dogs from AT&T FirstNet can run up to seven miles per hour on flat terrain and swim underwater at a depth of up to a meter for 30 minutes. They are equipped with wireless cameras and can be equipped with sensors for autonomous operations and drones that launch from and land on the dogs’ back while they are in motion.
These dogs are already in use with the military at the Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida is using the robotic dogs for patrolling the flight line and base perimeter and providing video feeds and data to base personnel. Meanwhile, other robotic dogs are being tested for emergency service use cases.
