DISH announced in the company’s Q4 earnings call that they will launch 5G in 25 markets by June of 2022. This is one major step toward achieving its commitment to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which stated DISH must deploy its 5G to cover 20 percent of the U.S. population by the middle of 2022 and reach 70 percent coverage by June 2023.
DISH initially launched its 5G network in Las Vegas for beta testing. Currently in this stage, the service is limited to only family and friends. According to DISH, they still have work to do to optimize the network but they’re moving at a fast pace. The company also plans to open its 5G access beyond friends and family through its Project Gene5is platform.
5G expansion is a big deal for DISH in the next coming months and year. DISH announced it will expand its 5G network to more than 25 metro U.S. markets and over 100 smaller cities. Some markets include, Albuquerque, NM, Houston, TX, Nashville, TN, and Salt Lake City, UT, to name a few. Some of the smaller cities span several states such as Arizona, Colorado, Michigan, Wyoming, and more.
