FCC Awards $169 Million in Emergency Connectivity Fund Support

The Federal Communications Commission, (FCC), announced it has awarded more than $169 million in support of the Emergency Connectivity Fund, a program designed to offer schools and libraries the assistance they need to provide tools and services for remote learning in their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is the fifth wave of the FCC’s support for the $7.17 billion Emergency Connectivity Fund program. The funding will be used to connect over 500,000 students in 47 states, including Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, and support 492 schools, 70 libraries, and 10 consortia. The $169 million also includes funding for 380,000 connected devices and more than 135,000 broadband connections.
States that received the largest amount of funding in the latest wave include:
California: $25,550,373 million
Florida: $23,239,971 million
Texas: $11,491,521 million
Idaho: $11,048,215 million
Minnesota: $10,865,203 million
Ohio: $8,116,708 million
Washington: $7,293,148 million
Thus far, the program has received funding commitments for over $3.2 billion, which has supported 10.6 million students, 7,535 schools, 692 libraries, and 91 consortia with over 7.1 million connected devices and around 3.5 million broadband connections.
