Recently, at the Wireless Broadband Alliance’s Wireless Global Conference, Intel’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Wireless Communications, Carlos Cordeiro gave some insight on the future of wireless, previewing key features of the much-anticipated Wi-Fi 7.
Industry leaders have already started looking further into the next generation of communication technology, Wi-Fi 7. According to Cordeiro, Wi-Fi 7 will support existing Wi-Fi bands and will expand upon Wi-Fi 6. The goal with Wi-Fi 7 is to continue to enhance data throughput and capacity while addressing the challenging wireless communications demands of the future.
Wi-Fi 7 Key Features
320 MHz channels
4096-QAM
16 spatial streams
Multi-RU (puncturing)
Multi-link operation
Multi-access point (AP) operation
Deterministic low latency
Along with identifying these key features, Cordeiro presented a theoretical data rate comparing Wi-Fi 6 to Wi-Fi 7, showcasing how Wi-Fi 7 has a data rate increase of approximately 4.8x compared to that of Wi-Fi 6.
