It’s no secret that T-Mobile and Sprint have tried to merge for quite some time but faced multiple legal obstacles, including a lawsuit file by a group of state attorneys general last year. Now, the wireless carriers have taken a huge step forward with U.S. District Judge Marrero ruling in favor of the merger on February 11, clearing one of the final stages of the merger.

T-Mobile and Sprint, combined, will have more than 100 million U.S. customers and will be led by T-Mobile executive, Mike Sievert, once Chief Executive John Legere’s contract ends.

Legere spoke about the merger in a statement and didn’t hold back on what it could bring to the future of the wireless world.

“Today was a huge victory for this merger,” said Legere. “Now, we are finally able to focus on the last steps to get this merger done! We want to thank the Court for its thorough review of the facts we presented in our case. We’ve said it all along: the new T-Mobile will be a supercharged un-carrier that is great for consumers and great for competition. The broad and deep 5G network that only our combined companies will be able to bring to life is going to change wireless—and beyond. Look out Dumb and Dumber and Big Cable–we are coming for you—and you haven’t seen anything yet!”

According to The Wall Street Journal, T-Mobile and Sprint have begun combining stores and network infrastructure after Judge Marrero’s ruling and T-Mobile is already promising better rate plans for three years once the merger is official.

The $26 billion merger is right at the finish line and could produce some heavy competition for AT&T and Verizon.

“This is a big win and a big day for the new T-Mobile,” Sievert said. “Now we can get to work finishing what we set out to do–bringing a new standard for value, speed, coverage, quality and customer service to U.S. consumers everywhere and truly changing wireless for good.”
