Broadband Equity for All is a new collation formed by more than 40 private sector leaders, civil rights groups, and consumer companies, including Comcast, Verizon, AT&T, Microsoft, and the Urban League, to name a few. The goal of the coalition is to address the digital divide and ensure low-income communities have access to the resources needed to connect to the internet.
The Broadband Equity for All coalition is working towards creating a long-term broadband benefit program that will help ensure all people, no matter their income, have access to dependable and affordable broadband. The coalition is advocating that Congress adopts this federally funded program and has the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) oversee it. Compared to the current Emergency Broadband Benefit, which was created in response to COVID-19, this benefit program will be a more permanent, long-term initiative that extends well after the pandemic is over.
The broadband benefit program gives communities more than just access to the internet and the ability to connect, it offers all of the opportunities that come with having internet, like benefits in education, health care, economic prosperity, and more.
