Nokia recently announced the launch of its new AirScale 5G product portfolio, including baseband, remote radio heads, and massive MIMO active antennas with digital beamforming. The new solutions are powered by the most recent iteration of Nokia’s ReefShark System-on-Chip (SoC) chipsets, which are designed to provide the maximum level of network performance, capacity, and efficiency.
Nokia’s new AirScale massive MIMO antennas include the 32TRX and 64TRX products, which both support fragmented spectrum and network sharing, as well as the 8T8R remote radio head solutions. According to Nokia, the 32TRX is the lightest 5G antenna in the industry, weighing in at 17 kilograms.
Along with the antennas, Nokia is launching new ReefShark SoC-powered baseband plug-in cards that are designed to enhance the capacity of the AirScale System module. Compared to earlier generations, these new plug-in cards offer more throughput, 84 Gbps, can serve 90,000 connected users at the same time, and reduce power consumption by approximately 75 percent.
“Our new generation of ReefShark-powered AirScale radio and baseband products is evidence of the successful transformation of our business and ability to deliver market-leading products to our global customers,” said Tommi Uitto, President of Mobile Networks at Nokia. “Nokia’s new portfolio enables communication service providers to offer both consumer and enterprise customers with cutting-edge 5G experiences with premium speeds, capacity, and connectivity underpinned by seamless, simple, and efficient ‘plug-in’ deployment.”
Nokia announced additional information about its Single RAN software that now includes 5G, the role ReefShark chipsets will play in artificial intelligence and machine learning, and more. To read the full press release, click here.
