Verizon recently announced the launch of its new 5G Innovation Hub at Arizona State University (ASU), which offers students, faculty, and more individuals with the opportunity to develop next-generation solutions using 5G and edge compute to bridge the digital divide.
Verizon’s 5G Innovation Hub is part of ASU’s Learnings Futures Collaboratory, Studios, and Emporium within the university’s Creativity Commons, which drives innovation and collaboration through discovery, research, and experiments. Together, the program will explore how 5G can bring together new-aged educational experiences and reinvent the future of learning.
The Digital Equity Jam is the first program to launch, in February 2022, out of the 5G Innovation Hub. This program, sponsored by Verizon, AWS, and Inseego, will bring together various teams to compete against each other to see which one develops the best pitch showcasing how Verizon’s 5G Ultra-Wideband and mobile edge compute can be used to help bridge the digital divide. The program will concentrate on a variety of areas including health, climate, poverty, human rights, and education and will offer the winning team funding for their project, summer entrepreneurship training with the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and VentureWell, and the chance to present their winning pitch to CGI.
“Working with ASU, we have an extraordinary opportunity to research and develop new 5G-enabled experiences that can improve remote learning and help bridge the digital divide,” said Tami Erwin, Verizon Business CEO. “Verizon 5G Ultra-Wideband’s super-fast speeds, high bandwidth and low latency can enhance applications ranging from immersive education to connected communities. By collaborating with ASU’s researchers, we hope to accelerate the innovation process and develop technology that will harness the full potential of 5G and edge compute.”
